SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 1211. The 5th model was procured in the largest quantities by the US Govt. with approx 43,000 ordered from 1863-65. The variance from the 4th model is the guide screw found in the center of the right side of the frame. The bbl is 21" with dovetailed front sight and 3 position 2-leaf rear sight. Matching SN on breech block. Partially visible oval cartouches are found on the wrist. Iron furniture. Sub-Inspector proofs on most small parts. CONDITION: overall fair. Metal has a smooth lightly mottled grey patina. Stock has been lightly sanded with partially legible cartouches and handling marks. Nice shiny bore with light rifling wear and a couple of spots of pitting. (01-29044/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
